MoU signed by IGM, DGeG & Primeval, witnessed by SEDA

At the International Sustainable Energy Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the August 21st 2024 – The Institute of Geology Malaysia. (IGM) is entering into a partnership with Digital Geoscience Global Sdb Bhd (DGeG) and Primeval Energy Ltd (Primeval). 

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed this afternoon by the three organisations. 

“DGeG is focused on geological service provision offering robust solutions by using the most innovative integrated digital geology approach, working in a variety of energy fields, including Petroleum, Karst Geohazards, Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS), Geothermal, Mining and others. Sarah Rahman, PGeol, COE of DGeG said “DGeG is thrilled to partner with IGM and Primeval Energy in developing Malaysia's geothermal energy potential. This partnership marks a significant milestone in Malaysia’s journey towards a sustainable energy future. By tapping into the vast potential of geothermal energy, we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, mitigate climate change, and build a greener Malaysia for generations to come.” 

IGM is a society with a broad scope of responsibilities in Malaysia. One of those responsibilities is to assist, advise and cooperate with government departments and other private or public bodies in an honorary capacity on questions relating to the science of geology and policy in respect of land and earth resource utilisation and all other matters connected therewith. P.Geol. Gs. Abd Rasid Jaapar, F.I.G.M, FGS, MIGRSM, President of the Institute of Geology Malaysia said "IGM serves as the central institution for professional geologist development in Malaysia. This initiative fosters knowledge exchange between local and international experts to promote geothermal energy as a key component of the country's green energy agenda. Given the nascent stage of Malaysia's geothermal industry, collaboration with external partners is essential for further development."

The MoU ceremony was attended by Sarah Rahmen, CEO of DGeG, Adam Hashim, Vice President cum Chairman of Hydrogeology & Groundwater resources technical committee and Andy Wood, CEO of Primeval. Witnessed by representatives from the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA): Yb Lee Chean Chung, Member of Authority, Ybrs Dr Nurmazilah Dato’ Mahzan, Member of Authority and Mr. Koh Keng Sen, Chief Operating Officer.

SEDA is the Malaysia statutory body formed under the Sustainable Energy Development Authority Act 2011 [Act 726]
